Dr. Sewell, assistant professor in VSU's English Department, created the advisory board when she was appointed as the new SGWP director this summer. Sewell replaced outgoing director, Dr. Chere Peguesse, associate professor in English and director of the Writing Center at VSU.

The SGWP is affiliated with the National Writing Project, a grant-funded network of over 189 school/university programs dedicated to ensuring quality writing instruction across disciplines and grade levels.
